My interest in woodworking started as a child when my grandfather would take me with him into his garage shop.
He would let me watch him and once took me to see a home he was working on. I was facinated. One day, while watching him in his garage shop, he pointed to a barrel of scrap wood he had saved. He gave me a hammer and pointed to some nails in a small jar and said those were for me. I think I was all of three years old at that time.
I was thrilled and started pounding away happily making what was to me wonderful toys and airplanes, doll furniture and the like.I felt so proud as I was the only one allowed to “work” with his tools. Of course I was the only grandchild old enough at the time, but that didnt matter to me as I felt very special.
After buying my first home in Florida, I got the woodworking bug again. My sister was making tons of crafts at the time and told me she needed something to display her “bunnies” and “bears” on, but had no floor space left. That was when the idea for my “mini” porch swing was born. I spent many many happy hours making swings and birdhouses after that, showing them in craft shows my sister and I were part of.
I now make my home in beautiful Maggie Valley, North Carolina. I moved from Florida to “retire”. I am still planning to convert part of my garage to a woodworking space, but with moving and having my youngest daughter and grandaughter also move up with me, space is a premium.
